Hello, friends!
Our whole Home Outside team sends you our best in these strange and unsettling times. We feel so lucky that we are all safely working from home and each of us has access to nature in our own yards and beautiful areas around us to enjoy when we are not inside our houses. We hope that you are able to enjoy the out-of-doors as well right now—nature is the best healer.
We’re hearing from our clients and friends that, more than ever, people want to make their outdoor space more beautiful, more productive, more personal. They want to nurture their souls by caring for living things. They want to grow some of their own food. And since they’re not planning vacations any time soon, they want a place that’s designed well for the recreation and relaxation of the whole family.
Because Home Outside has been offering digital landscape design tools and services for many years already, we’ve been able to continue doing the work we love: helping homeowners figure out how to create the landscape they love. Our Home Outside app enables people to design their yard themselves; our new Garden Design Coaching brings our team’s expert design and planting advice to anyone who needs just a bit of help. And, of course, our Home Outside designers are always available to work closely with you (from a safe distance!) to design your front or back yard or your whole property.
For over 30 years I’ve written books about landscape design and lectured around the country. With so many people staying home and wanting to improve their outdoor spaces, I’m working on making my lecture material available for free to anyone who visits our website. I’ll be adding new mini-talks, illustrated by the photographs from my Taunton Press books, regularly.
We’re also creating some free garden designs to be available in the very near future! We want everyone to be able to plant with confidence, for a garden they can begin to enjoy right away. Stay tuned for more information.

Please be in touch if we can help you create your own Home Outside.
And most importantly, keep well and stay hopeful.
My best to each one of you—
