CHALLENGE

This Long Island family already had an awesome pool, but the pool patio didn’t feel connected to the rest of their backyard.

SOLUTIONS

Home Outside helped reconfigure their space to make the pool patio the centerpiece of a landscape design for big family cookouts, sunny day pool parties, and weekend basketball games.

Expand upon existing screening vegetation with more upright evergreen shrubs, as well as low, spreading flowering shrubs and perennials.

Replace existing concrete path with a cut stone pathway, such as bluestone or granite. Edge adjacent basketball court with the same stone.

Replace existing chainlink pool fence with a modern powder-coated aluminum railing in charcoal black or white.

A new arbor provides shade near the pool without compromising solar heating of the pool water. The patio under the arbor comfortably fits a dining table and lounge furniture.

Replace existing concrete patio with wood decking for a softer look and feel.

A clean and narrow flowering tree here provides additional privacy from neighbors and helps obscure views of the pool utilities, accessible through a side gate behind the tree.

A small stone patio here is a flexible space that can be occupied by guests during larger pool parties.

Remove all lawn in the eastern side yard and replace with border planting beds, raised garden beds, and peastone pathways.
