Project Summary

CHALLENGE

This family enjoyed swimming and sunbathing in their backyard, but the pool terrace and surrounding lawn areas felt too small and confined. They wanted to keep the sun patio but also add a covered outdoor living area and kitchen, but they didn’t know how to make it all fit.

SOLUTION

Home Outside extended the patio area and integrated a shade structure, an outdoor kitchen, a firepit, vegetable gardens, and a pool shed, all enclosed within colorful flowering planting beds. This landscape design fulfilled the clients’ wish for a big, fun pool terrace and outdoor living room they could enjoy with family and friends.

A larger area within a new pool fence provides ample space for all the desired landscape elements and activities.
An expanded dining patio can accommodate an extra table, perfect for larger gatherings.
Horseshoe pits and play lawn are sited within the fence and are easy to access from the pool terrace.
Raised vegetable gardens are located within the fence to keep out critters.
Chaise lounge chairs are perfect for sunbathing in the sunniest corner of the pool patio.
A new poolhouse stores utilities and pool toys.
The outdoor kitchen features a built-in grill, smoker, refrigerator, and countertops. Guests can sit at the bar counter and watch the outdoor TV mounted on the poolhouse wall.
An outdoor lounge area around a gas firepit is perfect for relaxing in the evening. Container plants with shade-tolerant annuals define the seating area and soften the fence.
Existing concrete-edged lawn area was retained for cost savings.
