  • Acer saccharum ‘JFS_Caddo2’ PP23361 (Flashfire Maple Tree (Sugar Maple) This cultivar of the native sugar maple is bred from seed stock from the Caddo Mountains in Oklahoma and specially selected for heat and drought tolerance, attractive branching, and rich fall foliage. It is oval to slightly pyramidal in shape, and expected to grow into a large, shade tree, up to 45’ tall and 40’ wide. Sugar maples are an abundant species of the wild, providing seed and shelter for a variety of small birds and animals. It is also the best known source of maple sap, used commercially to create maple syrup. more info
  • Nepeta racemosa ‘Walker’s Low’ (Walker’s Low catmint) This aromatic, lavender colored, super-bloomer is one of the first to welcome summer. This mint family plant provides nectar to a variety of bees and hummingbirds, and serves as a host plant to certain larvae. Cut this to the ground after the first bloom for a second flush late summer.
  • Ilex crenata ‘Soft Touch’ (Soft Touch Japanese Holly) A great boxwood substitute, this acid loving, evergreen shrub grows in neat little mounds. Black fruits are attractive to birds but require a male and female plant to produce.   • Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Karl Foerster’ (Karl Foerster Feather Reed Grass) This cool-season grass is early to arrive in spring and tolerant of medium to wet soils in full sun. Known for its erect, columnar form, this grass works well in large groupings and can provide soft screening for seated areas in summer. Its feathery seed heads can be attractive to birds.
